As a HPCSA-registered Clinical Psychologist, I primarily work within a psychodynamic framework which places empathy at the forefront. I believe in providing a safe space where one may make sense of their lived experience in a non-judgemental and warm manner. This was instilled through completing my Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology at The University of the Witwatersrand in 2024 which included internship placement at Tara H. Moross Psychiatric Hospital (child rotation) and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (adult rotation). This proceeded the completion of my BA degree in Psychology and Anthropology and BA Honours degree in Psychology, as well as a year of volunteer counselling through Johannesburg Parent and Child Counselling Centre where I counselled at Parktown Boys High School and Bryandale Primary school respectively.
Following my completion of internship, I completed my year of community service at Tintswalo District Hospital in Acornhoek, Mpumalanga. My clinical experience has included providing psychotherapy, psychological assessments, and psychological consultations. Moreover, I have administered systems-focused family therapy, parental guidance, and couples interventions, as well as group therapy. While rooted in a psychodynamic approach, I have found great interest in patient-centred approaches, as well as utilising Dialectical Behavioural Therapy to psychological intervention, all of which are ethically guided.
I have found interest in social and psychotherapeutic interventions which were at the forefront of my time in community service. My time within Johannesburg as well as my experience outside of the city has introduced me to ways in which our services can be utilised within settings where mental illness is stigmatised yet prevalent. Through the assimilation into various multidisciplinary teams in various hospital settings, I have had the privilege of providing a much needed services within said communities, as well as provide support groups for caregivers of mental healthcare users, paediatric patients, and children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. My masters dissertation centred around how young black males growing up without their biological fathers make sense of fatherhood and gendered identity, coupled with my clinical experience has provided me with ever-growing insight into our lived experiences as humans.
