After studying a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand, I went on to complete my Honours degree in Psychology. Thereafter I volunteered at various mental health clinics, and then completed my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Pretoria.
During my training, I worked at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, 1Military Hospital and Itsoseng clinic. Thereafter, I completed my internship at Tara Psychiatric Hospital at the Personality Disorders unit and Chris Hani Baragwanath Child Psychiatric unit. I then completed my community service at the adult psychology department at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. Currently, I am in private practice in Craighall Park.
My experience at these various settings has allowed me the privilege to work with a range of people from different backgrounds, age groups and with various psychological difficulties. This has allowed me to understand the importance of giving each person the space to truly tell his/her story, in its most honest form. In my experience, establishing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship is essential to this process. By creating a safe and non-judgmental space, clients are enabled to open up and share their thoughts, feelings and experiences. I endeavour to help clients gain insight into their patterns of behaviour and relationships, and work towards an understanding of underlying dynamics that drive him/her.
