I’m a clinical psychologist in private practice, I trained at Witwatersrand University and gained invaluable experience starting my career in the child and adolescent outpatient clinic at Tara, The H.Moross Centre. The clinic serviced children, adolescents and their families at Tara and a satellite clinic on the Eastbank in Alexandra. This role involved managing psychological services in both clinics, supervising intern psychologists, play therapy, adult therapy, parental counselling, parent skills training groups and psychological assessments. In addition, I was involved in support groups and bereavement services for families and children affected and infected with HIV. During this period I was a joint appointee to the University of the Witwatersrand Psychiatry department, lecturing and supervising intern psychologists, medical students and psychiatry registrars.
I’ve been privileged to work with a wide range of people from very different walks of life. In my experience establishing a safe, warm relationship is central to the therapeutic process. I work in an inclusive way depending on the needs of that particular person and their environment. Facilitating communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team working is vital to providing a holistic approach where the individual is held in mind and services are optimal. At times I have been called upon to provide a case management service to facilitate and optimize the communication between everyone involved in the treatment.
Working with young people, both children and adolescents is my passion. Finding ways to enhance their growth, development and navigating the difficulties that they face, I provide individual, group or family therapy. Through this process the central role of parenting has become a greater interest of mine. Supporting and guiding parents, in order to optimize the health and communication within the family is vital for all family members wellbeing. At times I have provided a case management service.
I work with a wide range of adults providing a containing, thoughtful space to process not only everyday difficulties but also more severe psychiatric problems. I have experience with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, anxiety, depression and personality disorders in children, adolescents and adults.
Lecturing, teaching and supervision are areas of the field that I really enjoy. I have presented at numerous conferences and been invited to do workshops with professionals, parents, teachers and pupils on a wide range of topics including understanding teens, anxiety and depression, social media, emotional regulation skills, bereavement, suicide and self harm.
